Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Vacancy 

Location: Fenland Schools Federation (initially at Friday Bridge) 

 

Hours: 32 hours per week, 39 weeks per year 

Level 4 
Grade 5 
Point 12 – 15

Are you passionate about helping children develop strong mathematical understanding and a love of learning? Do you have the skills, knowledge and confidence to lead learning, cover classes and support teachers in delivering high-quality education? 

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and ambitious team from September 2026. 

 

About the Role 

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Fenland Schools Federation, you will: 

  • Lead and support the teaching of mathematics curriculum across the school. 

  • Work alongside teachers to raise standards and improve outcomes in maths. 

  • Deliver targeted interventions and support pupils to achieve their full potential. 

  • Provide high-quality whole-class teaching cover when required. 

  • Support the planning, delivery and assessment of learning. 

  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils can access a broad and engaging curriculum. 

  • Contribute to the school's wider vision of educational excellence and achievement for all. 

About You 

We are looking for an experienced practitioner who: 

  • Holds HLTA status or has equivalent experience. 

  • Has a strong understanding of primary mathematics and effective teaching strategies. 

  • Has experience of leading learning and covering whole classes. 

  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues and other stakeholders. 

  • Is flexible, resilient and able to respond positively to the changing needs of the school. 

  • Has high expectations of behaviour, achievement and inclusion. 

  • Is an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills. 

  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Is committed to their own professional development and continuous improvement. 

  • Will actively promote and uphold the values and vision of Fenland Schools Federation.

Essential Requirements 

  • GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. 

  • Experience of working in a primary school setting. 

  • Experience of delivering learning to groups and whole classes. 

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
