Out of Africa

Mon 14 March 2022

Out of Africa

Our topic Out of Africa has given us many opportunities to be creative. We have made some necklaces in the style of Maasaai warriors, we repurposed some t-shirts and created our own pattern and we have tried weaving in the style of Kente cloth from Ghana. We were also very fortunate to have Miss Hird, who is a dance teacher as well as a parent, come in one afternoon to teach the children an animal dance. Finishing the afternoon off with a dance from The Lion King.

Cooking

On the last day of term we had a messy day, where the children explored the textures of jelly and spaghetti in the tuff spots outside. We also used one of the pumpkins to make some pumpkin muffins. We followed a recipe and measured out the ingredients, then watched them cook in the oven in the classroom. We had a tasting session in the afternoon, some turned out better than others!

Forest Schools

The children have settled in extremely well this term, making lots of new friends and working brilliantly together.
During our topic of all about me, we have been exploring our 5 senses by looking at the world around us and making an autumn picture. We sorted materials out into groups by how they felt, we tried to work out the smells of different things, and we matched some sounds to pictures and finally tasted some different drinks.
We have had great fun in our Forest School sessions, exploring the area, bug hunting, playing in the mud kitchen, making dens and bird feeders, planting trees, making necklaces, sawing branches and eating toasted marshmallows.
We are getting changed much quicker for PE and have started to practice our ball skills. We are making our muscles in our hands stronger by doing dough disco and are learning new moves from our cosmic yoga sessions.
What a great start to our school year.
